Tossin, Nigeria.
Mentorship Area: Fashion

My journey in the Zumizo Mentorship program began with high hopes and a desire to develop my sketching skills and enhance my knowledge of business organization within the fashion industry. Meeting with my mentor was a pivotal moment, as it opened doors to understanding the intricacies of the organization and building a robust fashion catalogue. The mentorship program ignited a spark within me to push the boundaries of my creativity and ambition.

A significant turning point in my journey was landing a fashion brand’s Brand and Creative Manager role. This opportunity allowed me to apply the knowledge and skills I had gained, turning them into tangible results.

One of the most memorable experiences within the program was collaborating with a fellow mentee in photography. Together, we embarked on an iconic project celebrating the beauty and diversity of queer nonbinary and trans individuals living in Lagos, Nigeria.

This project showcased my creative abilities and reinforced my commitment to making a positive impact through fashion.

My participation in the program has left an indelible mark on my personal and professional growth. While I initially considered pursuing a career as a fashion stylist, the program rekindled my passion for design. It encouraged me to pick up my pen and sketch plans, even if they didn’t turn out perfectly. This newfound confidence led me to create approximately ten designs—a feat I would never have attempted a year ago.

Despite the current funding challenges, I’m excited about the prospect of releasing my first capsule collection. The mentorship program has instilled in me a belief that with determination and continuous effort, I can turn my fashion aspirations into reality.

One of the program’s most rewarding aspects has been connecting with fellow mentees and mentors. The 3-day briefing conference at the program’s outset provided a platform for knowledge exchange and idea-sharing. The relationships formed during this time have inspired and supported me, helping me navigate challenges and find creative solutions.
